Privacy Policy

Ask George is operated by ASK GEORGE PTE. LTD. (“Ask George”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal information we collect through the Ask George mobile app and this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.

Ask George is a hiring platform. Job seekers record a short video profile; employers post roles and watch those videos. That means the service only works if some of what you give us is shown to other people — section 3 sets out exactly what.

1. What we collect

1.1 Information you give us

  • Account details — your name, email address and password, or the basic profile information Google or Apple passes to us if you sign in that way.
  • Profile details — phone number, gender, the cities you want to work in, employment history and qualifications.
  • Video and images — your video profile, profile photo, and any photos or images you upload. The app asks for access to your camera and photo library only when you choose to record or attach something.
  • Messages — the content of conversations you have with other people on Ask George, including any GIFs you send.
  • Employer and listing information — if you hire through Ask George: your company details, job listings and the notes, shortlists and decisions you record against applicants.

1.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Device and technical information — device model, operating system, app version, language, IP address and similar technical details.
  • Usage information — which screens you open, what you swipe on, what you apply to, and when.
  • Diagnostics — crash reports and performance data. See section 4.2, which explains this in detail because it can capture more than you would expect.

1.3 What we do not collect

The Ask George app does not read your device’s GPS or physical location. The locations on your profile and on job listings are the ones you type in yourself. We do not collect contacts, calendars, health or fitness data, and we do not use your information to serve you advertising.

2. How we use it

  • To create and run your account, and to sign you in.
  • To show relevant job listings to job seekers, and relevant candidates to employers.
  • To let matched people message each other.
  • To take payment from employers for publishing job listings, and to handle refunds.
  • To respond to reports of inappropriate content or behaviour, and to enforce our terms.
  • To fix crashes and bugs, keep the service secure, and understand how it is used so we can improve it.
  • To contact you about your account, and — only if you have agreed — about Ask George news.

3. What other people can see

  • Job seekers: employers on Ask George can see your video profile, photo, name, the details on your profile, and the applications you send them. Your email address and phone number are shown to an employer you have matched with.
  • Employers: job seekers can see your company name, logo and job listings, and the name of the person they are talking to.
  • Shared links: if you or an employer shares a link to a listing or a profile, anyone with that link can open it.

Your password is never visible to anyone, including us — it is stored only in an encrypted, non-reversible form.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as far as they need to:

4.1 Infrastructure and delivery

  • Hosting and database — our platform provider stores your account, profile, media and messages.
  • Giphy — if a GIF is sent in a conversation, your device loads it from Giphy, which means Giphy receives your IP address and the identifier of that GIF.
  • Apple and Google — app distribution, sign-in, push notifications and in-app purchases.

4.2 Crash reporting and diagnostics

We use Sentry to find and fix crashes and bugs. Sentry is sent your user ID, your email address and your device details so we can tell which account hit a problem.

So that we can see what went wrong, Sentry may also capture a screenshot of the screen you were on when an error occurred, and a recording of your session in the app. These can include content that was on screen at the time, including the contents of a conversation. This information is used only to diagnose faults, is accessible only to our engineers, and is deleted on Sentry’s standard retention schedule.

4.3 Other disclosures

We may disclose personal information where we are required to by law, to a regulator or law-enforcement body acting on a valid request, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of a person or the integrity of the service. If Ask George is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer with the business, and we will tell you before that takes effect.

5. Payments

Employers pay to publish job listings through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those purchases are processed by Apple or Google — we never see or store your card details. We receive a record that a purchase was made, so that we can publish the listing and handle refunds.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is open. If you delete your account we remove it as described on the Delete your account page. Records we are required to keep by law — tax, accounting and payment records, for example — are kept for as long as that law requires, and anonymised statistics that cannot identify you may be kept indefinitely.

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile › Account Settings › Delete Account in the app, or by emailing us. Full instructions, and a breakdown of what is deleted and what is kept, are on the Delete your account page.

8. Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored hashed, access to production data is restricted to staff who need it, and we review that access. No service can promise perfect security, but if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

9. Children

Ask George is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

10. Where your information is held

Ask George operates in Singapore and Australia, and our service providers may store or process information in other countries. Wherever it goes, we require that it is protected to a standard consistent with this policy and with applicable privacy law.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to object to or restrict how we use it, or to withdraw a consent you gave us. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything else, email us at operations@ask-george.com and we will respond within the time the law allows. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to your local privacy regulator — in Singapore the Personal Data Protection Commission, in Australia the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If a change materially affects how we handle your information we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date below shows when this version was published.

13. Contact us

Questions about this policy, or about your information, go to operations@ask-george.com.
